No matter how long or short your visit to Honduras is, we recommend renting a vehicle to explore more of what Honduras has to offer. There are numerous adventures to be had throughout the country and Honduran highways are in good condition and improving daily. In Honduras you are able to drive your regular driving licence and you drive on the same side of the road. There are police check stops throughout the highway and at most entrances of major cities or towns but don't be alarmed, they just do random checks of licensing, seat belts, and suspicious persons of interest and do not bother tourist like some other countries in the region specially for money with random tickets. You'll never have to get out of your car for gas because all the stations are full service and gas is about 10 cents less per litre than in Canada. There are also local car washes where you can have you car hand washed inside and out for as little a $5.

 

 

There are no real posted speed limits on the highway but 80 to 100 km/hr is standard but be careful as people do walk on the side of the highway and travel at night is not recommended for this reason and the fact that most car's windshields are tinted for daytime driving. Also pay attention to taxies as they are crazy like every where else.
